Skin Analyzer to Best Track Your Skin Condition

Skin Analyser Moisture

What do you track in your life? For me, I track my sleep hours and it helps me get a gist of how my sleep cycle affects my emotional and physical health. And then after, I would know the next step to take in order to maintain or get my health back on track. Today I will be introducing a life-changing beauty tool to help you track your skin’s condition. Often times you are investing a lot in your skincare products, but are they really working for your skin? Moisture detectors are a great tool to measure that.

What is a moisture analyzer?

In short, it’s a device to track the hydration levels of your skin using a bioelectric impedance analysis. Now, what exactly is impedance?

What is skin impedance?

Skin impedance is the response of a specific skin region to an externally applied electrical current (or voltage), it essentially implicates the condition of our skin. Our stratum corneum aka the outermost layer of our skin, greatly affects our skin impedance. Stratum corneum serves as the primary barrier to our skin and the external environment. The more dehydrated our stratum corneum is, the weaker our skin barrier is. Thereafter, our skin impedance will increase.

But of course, the condition of the stratum corneum is not the only contributing factor to one’s skin impedance but the composition and metabolic activity of the skin too. However, the impedance of stratum corneum occupies a huge proportion of the total skin impedance. After establishing the strong relationship between stratum corneum and skin impedance, you may ask how and why this correlation?

Your skin’s hydration levels are closely controlled by your stratum corneum. The stronger your skin barrier, the less water will evaporate from the surface of your skin to the environment. The less water that evaporates from your skin, the more hydrated your skin will be. This inevitable water loss from your skin is referred to as transepidermal water loss (TEWL). TEWL is essentially the amount of water that passively evaporates from your skin (from the deeper more hydrated layers of the epidermis and dermis to the upper stratum corneum layer) to the external environment of the skin barrier. Most of the water will evaporate through the stratum corneum while only some are retained. An average person has a TEWL of about 300–400 mL/day however, the amount of water loss from the skin varies from person to person, depending on several factors.

The stratum corneum holds the most power in determining that water diffusion rate. When your stratum corneum is damaged chemically or physically, namely sun exposure, using harmful ingredients on your skin or even physically exfoliating your face, can compromise your stratum corneum. Then, your stratum corneum will lose some efficiency in retaining water. A higher volume of water will be lost through evaporation, and an increase in TEWL will cause the skin to be more dehydrated. A layer of stratum corneum with high water content produces stronger and more sensitive electrical conductivity than dehydrated stratum corneum and increases the induction of the dielectric constant. This reduces the impedance value of the skin. To sum it up, the stronger your stratum corneum (skin barrier), the lesser the TEWL occurs, the more hydrated your skin will be. Therefore, your skin impedance will be lower. Consequently, the status of stratum corneum greatly affects your skin impedance.

Other than your stratum corneum, your environment, and humidity has a great influence on skin impedance as well. Your environment changes the hydration state of your stratum corneum. Most of us tend to underestimate hydration. “Yeah, we are drinking 7 liters of water and putting on moisturizers daily, for sure our skin is hydrated… right?” You would be shocked to know how the air-conditioning in your room or how one flight on the plane can change your skin’s hydration levels. Now you may ask, how do I know the hydration levels of my skin?

Why do you need a moisture detector?

How do you determine your skin’s hydration level? Do you squeeze the apple of your cheeks to test your skin’s elasticity and collagen levels? It is not as easy to figure out your skin’s hydration level or even skin type. Thankfully, this beauty tool is here to tell you more about your skin. HYDRATION SKIN ANALYZER – SKIN BARRIER BIOSENSOR gives a precise reading of your moisture levels in your skin with its innovative technology. The number on the meter indicates how hydrated (or dehydrated) your skin is.

Different parts of your skin will have different moisture levels – Your cheeks may be dry but your forehead oily. To best combat whatever skin issues that may arise in various spots, you’ll want to first know your skin’s condition in different places to figure out what you’re working with. It is not as easy to read your own skin, to prevent misreading your skin’s condition, this new beauty tool is essential to accurately test your skin’s moisture levels so as to help you pick the right skincare and makeup products.

HYDRATION SKIN ANALYZER – SKIN BARRIER BIOSENSOR detects both Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) and ceramide levels in the skin

Ceramides are lipids (fats) that help form over 50% of your skin barrier is highly responsible for how your skin looks. Ceramides protect your skin by retaining moisture and protecting it against visible damage from pollution and other environmental stressors. Without ceramides, the skin barrier will be damaged and thus, lead to dehydration of one’s skin. Both TEWL and ceramide levels are useful indicators for the skin’s health.

How does HYDRATION SKIN ANALYZER – SKIN BARRIER BIOSENSOR work?

This beauty tool uses Bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA) technology. When you place the moisture detector on your face, it sends a small microcurrent through skin. Water is a conductor of electricity so the more hydrated your skin is, the faster the current travels through. The skin moisture analyzer then immediately and automatically detects your skin condition and displays the result on LCD screen as percentage numbers. The higher the number on the screen, the more hydrated your skin is.

The skin barrier biosensor is suitable for all skin types, and on all parts of the skin, including sensitive areas such as the lips, undereye, and neck.

Hydration levels can change almost as often as the weather, with this device, you can get an analysis of your skin in just a click of a button. You can track your progress and know if your skincare products are working for your skin.

So what do you do if your hydration levels are low?

Treat your skin with MULTI-CERAM™ MOISTURISER

When your epidermal barrier of the skin is compromised, it will lead to dryness and dehydration of ones’s skin. If it’s not treated, bacteria and allergens are able to enter and then, increased risk of secondary infections will cause eczematous symptoms. It is paramount to repair your skin barrier and prevent any dysfunction.

Dr. Teo Wan Lin formulated a moisturizer with high ceramide content to restore your skin’s lipid. In the Multi-CERAM™ Moisturiser, plant seed oil derived sources of ceramide are used. No synthetic or animal-derived ceramides are incorporated into the formula. Additionally, this moisturizer also contains plant anti-oxidants that also aid in reducing the loss of TEWL and Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic acid), a natural component of the skin, for dermal hydration.

The Dr. TWL Dermaceuticals Multi-CERAM™ Moisturiser  helps to support ceramide synthesis whilst reinforcing the skin barrier. Topical ceramides applied to the skin will help strengthen your stratum corneum and reinforce your barrier function.

MOISTUREMAX™ SKIN HEALING POLYSACCHARIDE FACIAL MASK

Combine the moisturizer with a novel reusable facial mask that utilizes a plant-based membrane for intensive moisture delivery with customizable cosmeceutical mask essence vials. It is 100% chemical additive-free and fully biodegradable. Unlike many others, this mask sheet has a patented Polysaccharide-Membrane to prevent TEWL. It restores the skin barrier by holding the cosmeceutical essences in a hydrophilic (water-loving) membrane, releasing the micro-reservoirs over a 15-30 minute period when applied on the skin. This enhances the absorption of active ingredients delivered via the cosmeceutical essences.

Use the mask with customizable Concentrated Skin Brightening Cosmeceutical Mask Essence Vial that contains active ingredients including Goji Berry, Sea Kelp and Arbutin for various skin lightening, radiance and anti-aging concerns. The vials are customizable according to your desired/recommended effects, in a peptide-rich formula.

Healing Polysaccharide Facial Mask has a unique porous structure that traps cosmeceutical active ingredients in mini-reservoirs within the mask, it optimizes the absorption of moisturizing ingredients contained in cosmeceuticals with minimal transepidermal water loss. The Customised Cosmeceutical Mask Vial goes hand in hand with Healing Polysaccharide Facial Mask to optimize the absorption of active ingredients into your skin, you can expect higher levels of skin hydration with diligent use.
