Best Facial Mist: Deep Sea Water For The Skin

deep sea water for skin

Sea water has been used for its anti-aging and deep-cleansing properties, however, recent studies have revealed that not all sea water is equally as beneficial for the skin. While all sea water provides the skin with nourishment, deep sea water itself works greater wonders on the skin due to its higher purity, and richer levels of minerals, nutrients, and trace elements. In particular, deep-sea water is rich in natural minerals such as magnesium, calcium, potassium, zinc and vanadium. In this article, we will discuss the benefits of deep sea water for the skin and how it is incorporated into the best facial mist.

What is deep-sea water?

The ability to hold various minerals and high levels of nutrients attributes to low levels of photosynthesis from plant planktons, low consumption of nutrients whilst accompanied by lots of organic decomposition. Deep-sea water is understood as a body of seawater pumped from a depth of over 200m below sea level, its location being far from solar radiation results in it having minimal to no bacteria activities, hence being a natural treatment that deep cleanse the skin far more effectively than harsh chemicals.

How does eczema develop?

According to accredited dermatologist Dr. Teo Wan Lin, “The development of atopic dermatitis, or eczema is complex and involves genetic, environmental and immunological factors. Generally, eczema is an inflammation of the skin that is accompanied by activated immune cells, mainly macrophages.” These macrophages increase inflammatory responses when activated, such as secretion of cytokines, production of chemical mediators and the generative of reactive oxygen species. A chemical called histamine regulates allergic inflammatory reactions. In elevated levels, it can contribute to inflammatory allergies and promotes neoplasia and angiogenesis. Angiogenesis would lead to the migration of inflammatory cells into surrounding tissues, while neoplasia is the formulation of abnormal tissue.

Treating eczema with purified deep-sea water

As deep-sea water has a high concentration of magnesium, the benefits of this mineral are delivered through deep sea water. Magnesium is often integrated into skincare products due to its ability to heal wounds and fight inflammation. Topical application of magnesium can help fight atopic dermatitis by restoring moisture and lipids to the skin. Magnesium can reduce skin inflammation in dry skin as well.

Furthermore, in a study conducted, patients with atopic dermatitis have shown improvement in skin symptoms when treated with deep-sea water. Symptoms such as inflammation, lichenification and cracking of the skin have improved results. Lichenification is a common consequence due to constant scratching, causing patches of thickened skin. Application of deep-sea water is also shown to reduce allergic responses, as reduction of total IgE levels and histamine release was observed. It also inhibited upregulation of IgE, histamine, and pro-inflammatory cytokines, hence reducing inflammatory responses.

Moisturizing properties

The magnesium in deep-sea water is also able to intensely hydrate the skin, preserving the skin’s moisture barrier. This helps to keep one’s complexion supple and vibrant, achieving younger-looking skin. Furthermore, salt content in deep-sea water enhances the hydration abilities of seawater by retaining more water in the skin. Therefore, skincare that incorporates deep-sea water can be a potent antidote for itchy, dry or flaky skin, providing a perfect skin soothing experience.

Deep Cleanses the Pores

Salt is well-known to act as a natural exfoliator. Present in deep-sea water, the minerals in salt penetrate the pores, helping to cleanse the pores as well as slough away dead skin cells. This results in a brighter, smoother skin complexion, free from dirt and impurities. This also enhances the skin’s ability to better absorb the active ingredients in skincare, where the application of any serums or moisturizers after cleansing the face with deep-sea water, is likely to reap more visible benefits.
