For many of us, hair loss, hair thinning, or other common hair problems may make it seem like our hair just isn’t growing fast enough. Luckily, there are effective solutions to help remedy your hair-regrowth problems. While home maintenance and hair care routines are important, natural hair growth treatment can help speed up this process too. In this article, we will go through causes of hair loss in men and women, and explain the science behind the natural hair growth treatment – the Sandalore Hair Regrowth Comb.

Hair loss causes

Both men and women can suffer from a genetically-induced hair loss condition known as androgenetic alopecia (AGA), which also refers to male pattern or female pattern hair loss. It is primarily driven by personal genetics, which result in increased sensitivity of certain scalp receptors to the circulating male hormone, testosterone. This is not due to a hormonal imbalance, but because both men and women have testosterone in their bodies post-puberty. An individual who suffers from AGA develops hair loss because of the reaction the scalp receptors have in response to the circulating amounts of testosterone, which is different from that of an individual who doesn’t have the genetic tendency to develop AGA.

“Other causes of hair loss can be related to the scalp itself. If you have symptoms of scalp sensitivity, pimples, flaking, colloquially known as dandruff, you may actually have a true disorder of the scalp known as seborrheic dermatitis due to overgrowth of yeast present on your scalp, or even scalp folliculitis, which is when you present with a lot of pimple-like lesions on the scalp. It can be due to an imbalance of the scalp bacteria, yeast and other microorganisms. Having an oily scalp, for example, may disturb your scalp microbiome,” accredited dermatologist Dr. Teo Wan Lin.

Female pattern hair loss

Female hair loss actually occurs more frequently than you think. It is necessary to implement natural hair regrowth treatments early so as to prevent further hair loss in the future. In particular, female pattern hair loss (FPHL) is a distinctive form of hair loss that occurs in women with androgenetic alopecia. FPHL has a strong genetic predisposition, whereby either a parent or both will inherit the genes. By age 50, around 40% of women show signs of hair loss and less than 45% of women reach the age of 80 with a full head of hair.

Male pattern hair loss

The initial signs of male pattern hair loss (MPHL) normally develop during teenage years. This leads to progressive hair loss and eventually the thinning of hair across the scalp. The disease onset differs from person to person, but MPHL typically starts with bitemporal recession – triangular, usually symmetrical, areas of recession at the frontal hairline. Thinning starts in the temples as well as the crown. After which, it gradually progresses to encompass the entire top of the scalp. By age 50, about 85% of men will have significantly thinner hair.

Science behind the benefits of Sandalore Hair Regrowth Comb for hair loss

Sandalore has been scientifically proven to stimulate hair regrowth from the follicles. This comb’s design stimulates and supports vigorous, healthy hair regrowth when used regularly, hence slowing down hair loss.

Sandalore: Olfactory stimulation for hair regrowth

In a clinical study in 2018 published in the prestigious Nature Journal, researchers discovered that the scalp’s olfactory (smell) receptors responded to Sandalore by stimulating hair growth from the follicles. However, it did not occur with the actual sandalwood extract, rather the synthetic version made under trade name Sandalore.

In particular, human hair follicles expresses OR2AT4, and the stimulation of OR2AT4 by a synthetic sandalwood odorant, Sandalore, prolongs human hair growth by decreasing apoptosis and increasing production of the anagen-prolonging growth factor IGF-1. Anagen is the active phase of the hair cycle, where cells in the root of the hair are dividing rapidly, forming a new hair and pushing a hair that has stopped growing, up the follicle and eventually out.

In a randomized clinical trial on 60 female volunteers with telogen effluvium over a period of 6 months, results showed that Sandalore 1% reduced hair shedding, increased hair volume and the percentage of anagen hair follicles. Furthermore, there were no observed adverse effects, with patients having a general good tolerance to the product. Therefore, this trial supports previous findings of anagen-prolonging effects of Sandalore with similar results now being similar in clinical practice. It also provides evidence that the use of Sandalore is a safe, well-tolerated, therapeutic alternative to treat hair loss and promote natural hair regrowth.

Anti-bacterial properties

An important characteristic of skin cosmetics include antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. This is because bacteria growth results in skin problems such as acne, papules, cellulitis and allergies, which is not ideal. The extracts of bamboo have such antibacterial activity. The ethanol and hot water extracts of different parts of bamboo can almost completely inhibit bacterial growth, with the hot water extracts tending to show stronger antibacterial activities. Therefore, the antibacterial activity of bamboo, which can be harnessed from the 100% bamboo bristles in the comb, would be useful in keeping your scalp healthy and free from pimples.

Anti-allergenic

Some components in cosmetics can cause allergy as a side effect. Therefore, including ingredients with an anti-allergy activity to the cosmetics will be beneficial in avoiding allergic reactions. Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is established as a trigger of allergic reactions. The leaf extract from bamboo showed the strongest anti-allergy activity with an inhibition rate of 42.8% and the lowest level of IgE production in peripheral blood lymphocytes. Therefore, the Sandalore hair regrowth comb made up of 100% bamboo bristles is safe and beneficial for use.
