1. Spiral elastics
Are spiral elastics better for hair? The spiral hair bands are also known as spiral coiled hair ties. These hair accessories are better on certain hair types for improved grip and are also gentler on the scalp. The key here is the continuous coil, versus the flat elastic band helps to also volumise and texturise ponytails. For those with fine, thin, limp hair—spiral elastics are ideal. Dr.TWL’s Tips on Choosing Hair Accessories
1. Hair elastics for thin hair
Choose Hair Accessories Singapore Tips: Spiral coil hair elastics are best for thin hair. The SMART HAIR ELASTICS are extra durable and the thermoplastic material specifically engineered to readily return to its original shape with gentle heat (hair dryer) to avoid overstretching with time.
Avoid traditional hair elastics—the ones which are tiny are the worst, they are too tight and make thinning hair appear even thinner and flatter. This can also cause increased tension on the scalp and ultimately lead to a condition known as traction alopecia or traction hair loss. The spiral hair elastics (also known as coil hair elastics) are ideal for those with thin, fragile hair as it adds texture, volume and is gentle on hair while staying firm at all times. Other types of hair ties, such as scrunchies may slip off on fine and thin hair. Hair accessories like clips are not suitable for thin hair, these break hair and may not hold thin hair securely. This may even increase tension on the scalp and cause traction hair loss.
Dermatologist’s notes: Thin, fragile hair may be a sign of an underlying health problem, such as thyroid disease. If you have noticed increased hair fall or thinning hair, you may wish to ensure your thyroid blood tests and overall full blood counts are normal.

Hair accessories for thick hair are quite easy to find—thick hair suits most styling but overly thick hair may be difficult to style with hair clips. Hair claws can cause pain and pressure over the scalp for those with thin hair—maybe more suitable to use on thicker hair types. For hair elastics—the key is to find one that does not break easily. Thick hair types may go through fabric covered elastic hair ties quite quickly—the increased tension especially when used daily can cause hair to break. The smaller flat elastics may not hold hair properly and break because of stretching.
