PAPILLON ARTISTS – TERESA LIM

The Twelve Rooms

The Artist started this series as a response after listening to a conversation amongst a group of girls who were battering themselves for being ugly and fat. Drawing from her own experience when she was growing up, The Twelve Rooms is a reflection and response to certain events in hope that other young girls can relate to. It is a conversation between the older self of the artist and the younger past, using illustrations and art as a form to convey the idea that no one is alone in their struggles, some of which are depicted in the series are: bullying, body image, not fitting in, conforming to gender expectations/stereotypes.

Teresa graduated from Lasalle College of the Arts with a First Class BA Honours in Fashion Design and Textiles. She gets inspired by themes revolving around gender and womanhood. She has showcased her works in exhibitions in Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Japan. She has commissioned pieces for H&M, Swarovski, Gucci, Coach and Olympus, amongst several others.

Teresa is one of Dr.TWL’s Women of Inspiration. In this series, Dr.TWL presents women artists with beautiful minds, who embody true beauty, inside out. Women who are not afraid to be themselves, to carve out their own individuality, rather than conform to society’s pressures. Dr.TWL believes this is what beauty should be about.
